Legalisation
The Consulate legalises documents for official use like:
- Birth certificate
- Unmarried certificate
- Married certificate
To use an official document in another country it is necessary to legalise the document in the country of origin.
Furthermore these documents are required for long-term visa called MVV (Machtiging Voorlopig Verblijf).
Without a legalised marriage or unmarried certificate an MVV can not be processed.
Once in the Netherlands you have to register yourself at the municipality and therefore you need a legalised birth certificate.
In Nepal this means the following procedure:
- How to obtain the documents :
In case the concerned person is born before 1974, the document has to be issued by the Village Development Committee(VDC) or municipality where the concerned person was born. A recommendation will be given based on the Nepali citizen certificate.
People born after 1974 can obtain a birth certificate from the birth and death registration office of the concerned municipality or VDC.
Although the birth and death registration bill was passed in 1974, it was implemented in some parts of Nepal since 1980 or 1982 only. Therefore, one has to obtain the document accordingly. But still up to date the registration of birth, marriage and death is not compulsory.
The birth certificate should contain
- the name of the concerned person
- the name of the father
- the name of the mother
- place of birth
- date of birth
- date of issuance of the concerned document
The unmarried and married certificate (in case of social marriage) should be obtained from the concerned VDC or municipality .
A marriage certificate of a civil marriage should be obtained at the CDO (Chief Districts Office)
- The next step is to have the Nepali text translated into English by the Law Book Management Committee, under the Ministry of Law and Justice at Babar Mahal.
- Then the translation has to be legalised by the Consular Section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Nepal.
- Lastly this legalised translation needs to be legalised by the Netherlands Consulate. Only legalised document by this Consulate will be valid in the Netherlands.
